TechTogether: Miami

May 5th - 6th, 2023 @ Miami Dade College

Join us for a 2-day hackathon serving people of underrepresented genders (like women, trans, and non-binary folks) hosted by community leaders across Florida. The event will take place May 5th-6th in the BIT Center at Miami Dade College. This year's theme is Cyberpunk!

Want to be part of the largest gender-inclusive Hackathon community?

Our mission is to open doors for ciswomen, transwomen, transmen, non-binary, agender and every other marginalized gender in the hackathon community. We want to create safe and inclusive spaces for you!

Venue & Transportation

This event will be in-person in the Business Innovation & Technology (BIT) Center at Miami Dade College: 300 NE Second Ave, Miami, FL 33132

Participants can start arriving at 9:30 am on May 5th and the event will conclude at 3:30 pm on May 6th. Participants will need to arrange their own transportation to and from the event.

Parking is free in the garage in Building 7 (on N.E. Second Ave between 5th and 6th Streets). Let security know you are there for the TechTogether Miami hackathon and they will give you a temporary parking sticker.

Stop 1: Sign up for Azure for Students! Navigate to the link above and sign up for Azure for Students. Students, get Azure for free courtesy of Microsoft Azure. Full-time college students are eligible for a free Azure account with $100 in credits. Stop 2: Create a GitHub repository! Navigate to GitHub and create a GitHub Repository. Stop 3: Deploy a Service to Azure! Using your Azure for Students subscription, deploy any Azure service. It’s incredibly easy to get started, with Quickstart Templates and user guides on Microsoft Docs. You can deploy any code you have from your Github repo directly into Azure as well.

Capital One would like to challenge everyone this weekend to create the best financial hack. Each member of the winning team will be awarded $250 Amazon gift cards. Coding The Future | Best Futuristic Hack

This challenge is looking for innovative ideas that can push the boundaries of what we currently consider the standard in the world of technology. The task is to create a project that imagines a future where technology has evolved in exciting and unexpected ways. The project should incorporate elements of the cyberpunk aesthetic, including: high-tech, themes from dystopian societies, and emerging technology. The winning team will receive mechanical keyboards and TechTogether exclusive bucket hats!!

Pixel by Pixel | Best Design Hack

This design challenge invites you to develop a hack with innovative and visually appealing user interfaces (UI) and user experiences (UX). Get creative with visuals, accessibility, and aesthetic! The winning team will receive drawing tablets and TechTogether exclusive bucket hats!!

Perfect Attendance | Most Open-Minded Attendee

This challenge is for the attendee that attends the most events during the hackathon. Events include workshops, keynotes, career fairs, and fun activities. If it is on the TechTogether schedule, then it counts towards this challenge! Winners will receive a portable speaker and TechTogether exclusive insulated water bottles!!

HelloWorld | Best Beginner Hack

This best first time hacker challenge is made to welcome new hackers (and those who work with beginners)! You are eligible for this category if more than half of your team are 1st time hackers. The winning team will receive smart reusable notebooks by Rocketbook and TechTogether exclusive insulated water bottles!!

Least Dystopian Future | Best Sustainability Hack

This sustainability challenge invites you to develop a hack that provides an innovative and practical solution that promotes sustainable development and consciousness of the environment. The winning team will receive solar powered portable chargers and TechTogether exclusive insulated water bottles!!

Do Hackers Dream of Electric Sheep? | Dreaming Big Hack

The goal of this hackathon is to encourage experimentation and risk-taking in a supportive environment. We want to celebrate those who are willing to take bold chances and try new things, even if they don't always succeed. This prize is for the team who dreamed big but didn’t reach their final goal. This challenge is for the team that had the coolest idea for a project, but either couldn’t complete it in time or had multiple errors. The winning team will receive heated mugs and TechTogether exclusive bucket hats!!

Most Creative Use of GitHub

GitHub is one of the best ways to collaborate, push code, get feedback, and show the world what you’ve built during a hackathon. To take it a step further, GitHub is now offering you access to industry tools, events & learning resources through something called GitHub Global Campus. Win this weekend’s Most Creative Use of GitHub prize category, first by signing up for GitHub Global Campus and second by using a GitHub repository to host your hackathon project’s code!
